Salute to Seniors: Randall Johnson - Central Bucks South

PA Salute To Seniors: Randall Johnson - Central Bucks South HS

What was your most memorable race/competition?
My most memorable competition was definitely high jumping at the Penn Relays. It was a great experience jumping in front of thousands of spectators, and competing against people from different countries.

Where did you face your biggest competition?
I faced my biggest competition at the district 1 AAA championships meet. District 1 is arguably the best district in the state and if you are able to survive the district meet, you are in good contention for a state medal.

Out of all of your high school accomplishments, which stands out the most?
Winning the district meet in high jump and being my school's first ever high jump district champion was definitely my biggest accomplishment.

If you could do it all over again, what would you change about your athletic career in high school?
I would definitely have focused more on the high jump. High jump was one of my marquee events and I wasn't really able to focus on it as much as I'd have liked to.

What were the most difficult obstacles you had to overcome?
The biggest obstacle I faced with high jump was my height. I'm only 5'9" and it was very difficult to jump the higher heights being the height that I am. A lot of individuals didn't think that I could jump as high as I did, and be as successful as I was, but I was determined and focused.

What will you miss the most?
I will miss my coaches and my teammates the most. I transferred to Central Bucks South my sophomore year and my coaches and teammates immediately made me feel at home. We have a great camaraderie at Central Bucks South.

Do you have any advice for younger athletes?
My advice to younger athletes would be to stay focused, believe in yourself, trust your coaches, work hard, and most importantly have fun. High School track goes by extremely fast so its important to enjoy every moment of it.

How have your coaches influenced your performances and your life goals overall?
Yes my coaches Coach Gable and Coach Crump have turned me into the athlete that I am now. Coach Gable turned me into a phenomenal sprinter and 400 runner. I went from splitting 54s in the 4x4 my sophomore year, to splitting 48s in the 4x4 my junior year. Coach Crump turned me into a 6'7" high jumper. I was only jumping 5'10" as a freshman. I would have never thought my freshman year that I could place second in high jump at states. My coaches taught me great sportsmanship and really emphasized the importance of team first.

What are your college plans?
I will be jumping and possibly sprinting next year at the University of Connecticut. My major is undecided.

Shout-Outs?
Shout out to my coaches Coach Gable and Coach Crump and all of my Central Bucks South teammates. Its been real!
