PA Salute To Seniors: Tyrone Leach - Norristown HS
What was your most memorable race/competition?
My most memorable race would be winning 4x200 relay at the Millrose Games then winning states the following week.
Where did you face your biggest competition?
At the League Championship, since some of the top guys in the state are in my league running against them at Leagues pushed me to run my season best times there.
Out of all of your high school accomplishments, which stands out the most?
Being a State Champion
If you could do it all over again, what would you change about your athletic career in high school?
I would change getting hurt my junior year because it set me back during the indoor track season of my senior year, so I had to work even harder to get my hamstring stronger and prepared for the outdoor season.
What were the most difficult obstacles you had to overcome?
Pulling my hamstring junior year.
What will you miss the most?
I will miss my coaches the most but I'll miss my team too. They’re just great people to be around. We weren’t just a team, we were a family and at the end of the day, win or lose we were always there for each other.
Do you have any advice for younger athletes?
Just stay focused. Believe in yourself. There’s always someone out there working harder than you so that should motivate you to want to never stop. Nothing is impossible. Don’t limit yourself and ALWAYS stay humble.
How have your coaches influenced your performances and your life goals overall?
Coach Milton, probably had the biggest influence on my track career as a coach because he also favorites the 400. He’s had great success with that event, so I knew if I wanted to run the times that he ran or even faster, he knew what it would take to get me there so I would have to work hard not only on the track but in the classroom too. He would always say, "you’re a student before you’re an athlete" and you can be the fastest guy in the world but without the tight grades you’re letting many opportunities go to waste. That has taught me how important it is to stay focused in and out of the classroom and the importance of grades overall.
What are your college plans?
I will be running at Richard Bland College
Shout-Outs?
Shoutout to my brother Sage, Tyrese, Tygee and sister Tisha. My mom and dad for raising me to be the man that I am today. As well as all the Norristown coaches, And everyone that has supported me through my high school career.
