The race for the top 3 teams in the Class A division in 2013 could not have been any closer. At districts, Avonworth, Our Lady of Sacred Heart, and Winchester Thurston finished 11 points apart. A week later, the same three teams were a mere 9 points apart, with Avonworth and Winchester Thurston sharing the 8th position.
Those three teams are favored in 2014 to get back to the state meet in a rivalry that can’t get much closer than it already is. Avonworth returns their entire top seven from last year, while Winchester Thurston and Our Lady of Sacred Heart only graduate one runner. Winchester Thurston do boast the top two returners from last season on time, Will Loevner and Landin Delaney. Sewickley Academy also bring back their entire top seven that were 4th at the district meet. They will have four seniors to help out three sophomores.
