After sharing the state number 1 spot on the opening weekend, Griffin Mackey of Sewickley Academy took the top spot all for himself on Saturday at the Adidas XC Challenge in North Carolina. The Class A state title contender finished 12th in the championship race with a state leading 15:39.6, just two seconds off of his lifetime personal best of 15:37 set back in December. He is still the only sub 16 minute performer in the Class A division through three weeks.
Team
In a close call for the award, the honor returns to Central Bucks West after a victory in the Briarwood Invitational championship race on Saturday. The reigning district 1 runners up put themselves up against AAA state contenders Lasalle, CB East, and Cardinal O'Hara and came away with a big win 54-61-85-96. Rock Fortna and Brian Mass finished in the top five which was good enough to beat Lasalle's 35 second spread, Jake Brophy's win, and O'Hara's 3-4 finish.

It took 3 weeks, but PA finally has its first sub 18 minute 5000 meter cross country runner of the season! That milestone was set by Olivia Sargent of Pennsbury. The senior ran an impressive 17:53 on a humid Saturday morning at the George School Invitational to hold off Jerrica Bauer of George School, Abbe Goldstein of Germantown Academy and teammate Hannah Molloy. The performance marked her 6th top 3 finish in her last seven 5Ks.

The AAA champions looked like champions on their 5000 meter debut on Saturday. Led by Olivia Sargent's 17:53 victory, Pennsbury had two more sub 18:30 runners in Hannah Molloy and Mary Webb. The team finished with seven under 20 minutes. Only Seneca Valley has more than three (4). Pennsbury scored 25 points with a 96 second spread for the win. They have only failed to win an invitational meet twice since the start of last season!
