Virginia Kraus won an individual Foot Locker Northeast Regional title, qualifying for the national championships along with Lillian DiCola, Matt Gosling, Vinay Raman and Rowan Carr.
The five Pennsylvania qualifiers, among others, ran at Franklin Park in Boston, Massachusetts, on Saturday. The top ten individuals in each gender's Championship race advance to the Foot Locker Cross Country Championships in San Deigo, California, on December 14.
Virginia Kraus (Saucon Valley) continues her reign, fearlessly winning a regional title. Kraus led line to line, clocking a blistering 17:34.4 personal best. She broke away from a chase pack consisting of Zariel Macchia (William Floyd, NY) and Brooke Strauss (Glastonbury High School, CT) with a mile to go in the race.
Lillian DiCola (Hatboro Horsham) punched her ticked with a ninth-place finish. She ran 18:04.8, beating tenth-place Tess Sherry (Conard High, CT) by over 13 seconds.
Emily Fisher (Somerset Area) and Olivia Cieslak (Haverford) were also in contention, earning Northeast Region second-team recognition. Fisher finished fourteenth place in 18:31.3, and Cieslak finished twentieth in 18:40.6.
Matt Gosling (Council Rock North) paced the PA boys with a fifth-place finish in 15:28.8. It was a close battle, with Vinay Raman (Hershey) and Rowan Carr (Penncrest) both finishing within three seconds of Gosling.
Raman was eighth overall in 15:30.8, with Carr just one place back, finishing ninth in 15:31.5.
Other standout performers mixing it up in the chase pack included Edomias Mulugeta (Penncrest), Adam Kingston (Manheim Township), and Jackson Warfel (Pennridge), all finishing within three seconds of one another.
Mulugeta was sixteenth in 15:48.1, Kingston was seventeenth in 15:49.8 and Warfel was nineteenth in 15:50.8.
Of the 11 states and one US territory competing, PA had the second-highest number of girls and boys who qualified for the national championships, at five, behind Connecticut's six.
