A majority of independent schools got their seasons up and running this past weekend. Many of them competed at George School or Briarwood, and some good performances stood out.
Germantown Friends boys look like the early favorites at this stage after a convincing win at George School. Nick Dahl and Grayson Hepp led the way with ah 1-2 finish. Penn Charter were the 2nd independent school in the race with a 6th place overall finish. The GFS girls finished 4th in the same meet with 184 points, led by Griffin Kaulbach and Sarah Walker.
At Briarwood, The Haverford School finished 10th in the 18 team Division 2 race, led by a 10th place finish by Charlie Scales. Episcopal finished 16th in the same race. In the girls division 2 race, Agnes Irwin finished in an impressive 3rd place led by a 3-6 finish from Sanaiya Watts and Jessica Crowely. Episcopal also cracked the top ten with a 9th place finish.

Individually, Nick Dahl of Germantown Friends ran 16:02 to win the George School meet to top the list ahead of Hepp's 16:13. Jerrica Bauer of George School finished runner up on her home course to Olivia Sargent in 18:15 in her first XC race since injury last October. Abbe Goldstein finished 3rd in 18:18 in the same race to record her fastest 5K of her career.
