Class AA Report: Week 3

After their convincing win at Red White and Blue, Villa Maria Academy once again put on an impressive performance on Saturday. At the Slippery Rock Invitational, they placed six runners in the top 10 to dominate the AA competition with 22 points, winning by 89 points over their nearest competition.

Archbishop Wood earned a narrow win over up and coming Villa Joseph Marie at the George School Invitational last week. The District 12 champions had a 28 second 1-5 spread to defeat VJM by 12 points. That win evens the season series at one win a piece after VJM got the better of Wood at the John Sharp Invite on the opening night of the season.

The boys state champions York Suburban got their season underway with a win at the Big Spring Invitational last weekend with a score of 55 points to more than double up the competition.

As for last year's runners up, Grove City finished 3rd at the Panther Invite with a 20 second spread and all runners in the 18 minute range. These two teams are scheduled to square off Saturday at the PIAA Foundation meet. At Slippery Rock, Knoch was victorious over Beaver Area and Harbor Creek with four runners in the top 20.

It was a quiet week on the individual front, as most district leaders held their places on top. Claire Brown of Villa Maria Academy ran a big 18:31 at a dual meet on Tuesday to top District 10 and has been the leader of her team thus far.

The boys had a couple more changes on top. Patrick Donahue of Holy Ghost Prep ran 16:19 to take the top spot in District 1. Ryan Starvaggi of Harbor Creek reclaimed the top spot in District 10 with a time of 16:38. Sean Sullivan of Bonner Prendie now tops district 12 after his bronze medal finish at Briarwood in 17:13.
