Roundtree, Vlasic are named Performers of the Week!

As we prepare for another busy weekend of track and field action, let's reflect on two performers who brought their A game last week. Congratulations to this week's performers of the week: Mikaela Vlasic of North Penn and Jace Roundtree of Kiski Area.

Girls Performer of the Week: Mikaela Vlasic (North Penn)

North Penn junior Mikaela Vlasic, like the rest of her teammates, has had a busy winter. The Maidens have been running any number of relays and dropping sick times along the way. But last Friday at the DVGTCA meet, Vlasic crushed the open 800 taking the win in a huge indoor PR. She managed to out-kick Marple Newtown freshman Rebecca Ritchie, nipping her at the line by .02. Vlasic's time is good enough for a PA#9 of 2:17.88. If you've paid any attention to the girls' 800 in the state of Pennsylvania, you'd know just how loaded with talent that event is. Whatever relay(s) or open events the North Penn girls compete in at states, it's a safe bet that they'll walk away with more than a few medals, and Vlasic will certainly be a threat.

Boys Performer of the Week: Jace Roundtree (Kiski Area)

Jace Roundtree's senior year has been a huge breakthrough. Roundtree didn't qualify for the state meet indoors last year. This year, he'll head into the February 28 meet at Penn State as one of the favorites. Roundtree kept up his spectacular season across state lines this past weekend. The Kiski hurdler won the 60m hurdles at the Youngstown State meet, clocking an 8.25, setting a new PA#1. A week prior, Roundtree ran the 60 dash, which was immediately followed by the hurdles at the TSTCA meet at Edinboro. Roundtree still managed an 8.30, finishing second to Mt. Lebanon's Pat Kimball, who tied Roundtree's PA#1 mark of 8.28 for the win. Roundtree was fresh for the finals of the hurdles this week and it paid off. He took back sole possession of his PA#1 from Kimball. Roundtree keeps setting personal bests all along the way this season. What more will he bring to the table?
