UAGTCA Meet Wrap-Up by Ron Jackson

Philadelphia, Pennsylvania once again became the center of the Youth Track and Field universe as The United Age Group Track Coaches Association concluded their 3rd Annual Youth Invitational meet held at the city's Northeast High School's Charles Martin Stadium July 11-13, 2008. The meet with entries from 65 clubs from 10 States and 4 countries was a huge success. There were outstanding performances across the board in every division and an amazing 52 new meet records were established.

The UAGI, as it has become known, was hailed as a fantastic opportunity to fine tune for the National USA Track & Field and AAU National Junior Olympic meets being held at the end of July. The meet brought together many of the prospective medalist for a preview of things to come in Detroit, Michigan (site of the AAU National Junior Olympic Championships) and Omaha, Nebraska (site of the USA Track & Field National Junior Olympic Championships). The UAGI meet now has a well earned reputation for being a well organized and talent laden event that has become a favorite stop for many US teams and now teams from Bermuda, Canada and Jamaica can be expected to participate as well.

The meet has become a reliable predictor of National success as 58 current and former participants have gone on to achieve national honors in their respective events.
