In a thrilling finish at last year's PTFCA Indoor State Championships, North Penn's Uche Nwogwugwu ran down the defending state champ in the event, Brooklynn Broadwater and beat her to the line to take the win in 55.01 over Broadwater's 55.09.
Nwogwugwu rode that momentum into the outdoor season, eventually winning the outdoor title in a blistering 54.09. Now Nwogwugwu is a senior and she'll be on the hunt to defend those state titles. Nwogwugwu is one of the state's most versatile athletes, also competing in the triple jump and high jump. She's also been a big part of some successful North Penn relays (like their indoor 4x800 state record).
The favorite will have challengers, though. Alexis Crosby of Cheltenham was fifth at indoor states last year and second to Nwogwugwu outdoors in the 400. Crosby should definitely be able to give a good race in the quarter mile.
Springside Chestnut Hill's Alexandria Kitchell will be one to watch. Kitchell was sixth at indoor states...
