The Jake Brophy-Dominic Hockenbury duel in the 3000 meters at the PTFCA Indoor State Championships last winter was one that will go down in history. After he looked like he had nothing left in the tank, Brophy summoned an amazing kick in the final lap to run down Hockenbury and steal the state title---Brophy's first and only track state championship.
While those two battled to the finish, possibly lost in the mix was a terrific race from JP McCaskey's Nathan Henderson. Henderson steadily moved up in the pack in the states 3K and with a few laps to go, he found himself in third, and then eventually passed the eventual winner Brophy. Henderson wound up third in a great time of 8:36.
Henderson rode that into the outdoor season where he beat both Brophy and Hockenbury in the Penn Relays' 3000 meters, before injuries hampered the rest of his season. That indoor states race served as a catalyst for Henderson, who took second in the state in XC and qualified for this weekend's ...
