As the leaves are turning the cross country season is starting to heat up and so is Seneca Valley. At the second annual Kiski Area Invitational Seneca Valley dominated the competition winning both the varsity individual championships and the team championships. In the girls race Megan Powell led from start to finish. Powell’s course record of 20:02 (former record held by Bethany Walker of Ellwood City 20:04) took first by over one minute in front of teammate Erin Lopresti. The boys’ race was much closer as Penn Hills’ Charles Anderson couldn’t catch returning champion Cam Stauffer who bested his own course record finishing in 17:08. The course boasts one significant hill – raced three times.

PA # 8 Holy Ghost Prep and PA #3 AA Germantown Friends will square off in the Boys Eastern States Championship Race. Holy Ghost is coming off an idle weekend after a tough early season schedule, and should be fresh for the tough Vanny layout. Germantown raced to a 7th place finish at Paul Short and will be looking to move back up the AA rankings with their performance here. PA #2 North Penn will be running as well, but they are slated for the Varsity B Race. This is a strategic decision, as the team wants to save their best races for the post-season with League, District, and State Championships coming up. So we will have to compare times and spreads to see how the three teams match up against each other. Individually, Brad Miles should be watched for a great time, after showing how strong he can run on the hills over the Salesianum layout.
Lower Merion will be in the Varsity C Race, so watch for Ben Furcht and Neal Berman to post a pair of solid times on this course. West Chester Henderson will also be competing in this race. PA #8 North Penn girls will be in the Girls Varsity D Race, after a strong showing last week with a win in Salesianum. |
