Girls' Sprints/Hurdles Preview

At least on paper, it looks like Cheltenham standout Chanel Brissett will be pulling double duty on Saturday. Brissett is entered in both the 60 meter dash and the 60 meter hurdles. It's the same double she rocked at the indoor state meet last winter, and a difficult one at that with preliminary heats one after the other. But Brissett, the state record holder in the hurdles, has proved she can handle it and she'll be favored in both.

Watch Brissett's win from last year's Carnival:

The hurdles are loaded, headlined by Brissett. PA#2 Yasmin Brooks of Susquehanna Township returns to the event and should be strong. PA#2 Christina Warren of Perkiomen Valley is another one to watch. So is PA#5 Madison Langley-Walker of Upper Dublin. Conestoga Valley's Jane Livingston is also entered making this a crazy fast field (which is still an understatement).

While Brissett leads the dash field as well, this event is also loaded for Saturday. PA#7 Jaylyn Aminu will be in the mix. The Pitt recruit won the AAA state title in the 100 meters outdoors last spring. Norristown's Jonae Cook (PA#8), Saucon Valley's Talitha Diggs (PA#11), Conestoga's Grace Lanouette, Cedar Cliff's Grace Gillespie, and Springfield (Delco)'s Danielle Peyton, Paul Robeson's Tikki Wise.

North Penn's Uche Nwogwugwu leads the 400 meter field. Nwogwugwu is the reigning state champ. She hasn't raced much this season, but she ran a strong quarter a few weeks ago and was part of North Penn's DMR last week. Penn Wood's Janae Pitt, CB South's Lydia Fielding, and Norristown's Siani Sanders will be looking for the upset.

We haven't seen much of Norristown's Jayana Webb this season. She's helped her team to some quick 4x2s and has run the 55 meters a few times, but she hasn't contested the open 200, an event which she ran an incredible 23.37 outdoors in. Well, Webb is entered in the 200 for Saturday and the junior will be favored to take the win. Robeson's Wise should give her a good run. The field also includes Owen J. Roberts' Teneisha Myers, Penn Wood's Elicia Moore, Cheltenham's Brielle Lewis, and Cedar Cliff's Gillespie.
