Girls' Field Recap

What a day it was for Upper Dublin's Madison Langley-Walker. The Upper Dublin junior ended her day with three PRs and a state title. Langley-Walker took third in the long jump and hurdles, and won the triple jump, pulling out a huge PR of 40-4.5 on her final jump to leap into the lead. That gave her the win over Canon McMilan's Chyna Beck, who also jumped really well, with a PR of 39-11.5. Perkiomen Valley's Christina Warren was third with a strong jump of 39-7.25.

It was a heated competition in that long jump that saw everyone in the top seven jump past 18 feet. Up top, it was Bentworth's Brenna Cavanaugh, who jumped a massive PR of 19-7.25 to seal the upset victory over two-time outdoor champion Khyasi Caldwell-Adams of Pocono Mountain East and two-time indoor champion Langley-Walker. Caldwell-Adams jumped 19-1.75, just off her season best, and Langley-Walker also PR'd with a 19-1.5. Athens Area's Breana Gambrell was third with a jump of 18-11.75.

South Williamsport's Katie Jones, the state record holder, won her second straight state title in the pole vault. Jones was just off the meet record, but won the competition with a height of 13-0. She was just off on a couple looks at 13-3. Jones will be aiming for 14 feet at nationals and in outdoors. Hempfield (3)'s Carena Nottoli took second, clearing 12-6, and James Coughlin's Madisyn Hawkins and State College's Lyndsey Reed tied for third, both clearing 12-0. Laurel Highlands' Casey Phelan also cleared 12-0 and took fifth on jumps.

Hickory's Tori McKinley added an indoor state title to her name. The PIAA-AA champ from this past spring threw a best of 44-6.5 on her first throw and that held through to the end, giving McKinley the victory. That was 2.5 inches better than Janese Lynch's second place throw of 44-4. Lynch of Neumann Goretti was also second last year. Berwick's Payden Montana took third with a throw of 44-3.75.

The high jump was a close battle. Ultimately, it was Central Bucks South's Valerie Przekop who came out on top. The Stanford recruit cleared 5-6, along with two others girls, but it was Przekop who got it on her first attempt and won the state title on jumps. Przekop adds on this title to her outdoor state title from this past spring. Palisades' Lydia Bottelier was second (5-6) and Easton Area's Kate Willshaw was third (5-6). After that, five girls all cleared 5-4.
