AAA Girls' 200m Preview
While the AAA 100 meters is an open field, so is the AAA 200 meters, which should create an epic sprint to the line for the state title.
Cheltenham's Chanel Brissett enters as the top seed. She went 23.98 to win her conference. And then in her eleventh and final race of the day at the District 1 Championships, she ran a 24.29 to win the 200 meters and made it look easy. In what would be her final states race of her career, could she pull out some more magic?
She'll have a lot of girls in the field trying to prevent that. Harrisburg's Ty'Asia Dansbury, a false start victim in the 100 meter finals at District 3, she roared back to win 400 and 200 meter district titles. In the 200 meters, she ran 24.52, a PA#3. The senior will certainly be a factor. Avonworth/Northgate's Hunter Robinson was third in AA last year in this event. She's runs 24.55 and 24.56 this season and will be in the mix, too.
Saucon Valley freshman Talitha Diggs, Conestoga's Grace Lanouette, Pocono Mountain East's Khyasia Caldwell, and Owen J. Roberts' Teneisha Myers all ran sub-25 times at their respective district meets and will all be in the mix for medals at Ship.
Then there's Kouri Peace, the defending AAA state champion in the 200 meters. She ran a PA#2 24.41 at her league championship, but didn't quite run like her normal self at districts, where she placed seventh. She came up lame at the end of that race. If healthy, however, she is absolutely a contender to defend her title.
