AAA Boys' 100m Preview
This has the potential to be one of the weekend's most thrilling races with a number of contenders and it'll all come down to what should be a very close final. After a DQ by PA#1 Terrance Laird at the District 1 Championships, this field is wide open.
In one corner, we have the reigning AAA state champion in Journey Brown of Meadville Area. Brown knows when to turn it on when the lights are the brightest. He captured the 60 meter state title indoors and he'll look to close out his track career with another win. But my, will he have challengers.
Harry S. Truman's Sayyid Saunders captured the District 1 title in a 10.66, which makes him the top seed headed into states. He missed the finals last season, but he's much-improved this year and one to watch for sure. Nazareth Area's Julian Liaci ran a strong race to win the District 11 title despite a headwind. He's motivated and a clutch performer.
Ambridge Area's Isaac Elliott has been strong all season. Surely, he'd love to close out his high school career with a state title and he has the potential to do so. Harrisburg's Ronald Kent ran a great race to win at District 3. He'll look to carry that momentum into the weekend. Imhotep's Kristian Marche was third in AA last year. Now in AAA, he'll look for another podium finish.
Downingtown East's Jeremy Jennings and his new teammate Brassir Stocker are returners from last year's final. Those two, along with Springfield-Delco's Philip Shovlin and Norristown freshman Austin Montgomery make up a strong District 1 contingent. Beaver Area's Darius Wise and Muhlenberg's Najee Smith are others to keep in eye on in this loaded field.
