AAA Boys' 110m Hurdles Preview
North Allegheny's Ayden Owens will enter the state meet as the top seed in the three events. He's one of the state's most exciting athletes and his talents will be on display all weekend long. Owens has shown great progression this season in the high hurdles, culminating with a PA#1 14.19 to win the WPIAL AAA title.
A deep contingent of District 3 high hurdlers will be chasing him. It won't include PA#2 Mychael Thomas of Carlisle, out with an apparent injury, but the other Central Pennsylvanians have been pushing each other all season and it could pay off come this weekend.
Conestoga Valley's Aanyah Bermudez took home the win in the 110 hurdles at that D3 meet. Penn Manor's Taraje Whitfield was second there, but he has a faster season best with a 14.27. Interestingly enough, Whitfield is the lone returning semifinalist from last year's state meet in the high hurdles. No returners made the finals. Harrisburg's Richard Gilchrist, CD East's Aaron Arp, and Red Lion's Dominic Eyler are all serious contenders as well.
Wilson Area's Job Goodman was impressive in victory at the District 11 Champs. He could be ready for an even stronger performance this weekend. Coatesville's Jared Elters was somewhat of a surprise winner at District 1. Can he surprise again at states?
Souderton's Stephen Scott, Jim Thorpe's Joseph Schwartz, and Lower Moreland's Cobe Wiggins will look to get in that final as well. Anything can happen in the high hurdles and any number of entries will be looking to seize any opportunity should the favorites slip up.
