Two Pennsylvania girls traveled across the country to Seattle, Washington for the Brooks PR Invitational, and both walked away with strong performances.
Germantown Academy's Abbe Goldstein placed fifth in the girls' mile in a time of 4:49.62, while North Allegheny's Clara Savchik placed eighth in the girls' 2 mile in 10:19.85.
In the mile, the race was dictated by a slow early pace. Goldstein hung in the middle of the pack the whole time. Heading into the final lap, the Harvard-bound senior was one of five girls remaining in the lead pack. However, she slipped off the pace, but still held on for a strong fifth place finish in the most loaded girls' mile field of the season.

In the 2 mile earlier in the day, Savchik, a junior, performed very well against two of the best distance runners this country has ever seen. Early on in the race, Brie Oakley of Colorado and Claudia Lane of California separated themselves from the pack, using a blistering pace.
Savchik still clocked a PA#1, finishing eighth in 10:19.85. That's faster than Savchik's 3,200 meter best from the PIAA State Championships, which was just off the PIAA meet record. The NA junior is seen as the favorite to win the AAA XC title this upcoming fall.
