Kujdych, Beckner Conquer The Conditions At Briarwood

Girls' Challenge Race - Recap

If it felt a little like deja vu all over again on Saturday, you weren't alone.

For a third straight season, Mary Borkoski of Pearl River (NY) won an individual title at Briarwood. Borkoski won the Division II Varsity race at Briarwood as a sophomore and as a junior. And while, the three varsity races were consolidated to two this season, Borkoski was still on top. The senior ran 19:39 to win the race in dominating fashion. She took it out hard from the gun and held on.

Her Pearl River team, which suffered its first dual meet loss in many, many years the week leading up to Briarwood, were motivated to come out strong in Philly. Three other girls from Pearl River placed inside the top ten and they were the winners of the Challenge Race the top team at the meet, based on the merge.

Cheltenham's MaryGrace Rittler took second individually with a time of 19:57. Haddonfield (NJ) freshman Allison Colflesh was third in a time of 20:34 and Episcopal's Caitlin Jorgensen was fourth in 20:51.

Pearl River scored 35 points to win the race easily. Haddonfield was second with 66 points and Hatboro-Horsham was the top PA team, taking third with 131 points.
