Starliper Heats Up At Big Spring

Girls' A & AA Race - Recap

After coming on strong towards the end of XC and through track as a freshman last year, Northern's Marlee Starliper was the favorite on Saturday and she ran like it, leading from the gun and not looking back, running a 29-second personal best 17:58 for the day's fastest time and a PA#2.

Eastern York's Maddie McLain ran well for second in 18:53 while Class A runners Christina DiFalco (Pine Grove) and Jordan Haberstroh (Columbia) were third and fourth, respectively. That made for three strong season debuts from those girls. DiFalco made the trek from District 11 country to compete on Saturday.

After returning its entire varsity squad from a year ago expectations are high for Starliper's Northern squad and the Polar Bears got their team campaign started on the right foot, posting 71 points to handle Mid-Penn foes Boiling Springs and Big Spring in the 2A scoring battle. Elaina Clancy led the way for Boiling Springs by finishing 4th overall while Big Spring's Sam Crouse was fifth as the Bulldogs aim to return to states for a second straight year in 2017.

In the separately scored Class A team race, York Catholic outlasted Camp Hill by a narrow 47-55 margin.
Katelyn McDougall was York Catholic's top runner, finishing 3rd among A runners in 20:06.
