Veterans Shine, Newcomers Emerge To Start Indoor Season: Week 1 Recap

The Wyomissing Area boys, fresh off a cross country state title in AA this fall, kept it going into the indoor season. The squad ran 11:16.57 to win the DMR to start off the winter.

Twin Valley's Chase Knorr put down an early-season state leader in the 3K, running 9:27.30 for the win.

Spring Ford's Melissa Israel got her season off to a good start in the pole vault. The junior jumped an indoor PR of 11-3, which puts her at PA#4.

Pleasant Valley's Jalurah Moore took the win in the 55 meters, running 7.57 for the win.

Mercersburg Academy All-Comers Meet

One of the state's top returners in the long jump had a solid start to his season. Mikale Williams, of the hosts Mercersburg Academy, put down an early state leading jump of 21-4.25 in the long jump to take first overall int he event. He also won the triple jump with a jump of 42-10.

McConnellsburg's Josh Booth (above), who won a AA 300 meter hurdles title last spring, got his indoor campaign off to a good start on Friday, running a PA#2 7.70 in the 55 meter hurdles. That's a nice improvement for Booth, who is one worth watching for this winter in the high hurdles.

Shippensburg's Alex Sharrow won the 55 meter dash in 6.63, a strong start to his indoor career. Punxsutawney's Antonio Stello took second in 6.71. 

Mercersburg's Sophia Divone ran 5:28.91, the state-leading time after Week 1, in the 1600 meters to grab the win there.

Punxsutawney's Sam Dyson won the shot put with a throw of 35-3.
