Garland & Davies Drop US#1s; Plenty Of PA#1s: Burdette Classic Meet Recap

Burdette Classic - Boys' Recap

SPRINTS/HURDLES

Germantown Academy's Kyle Garland keeps wow-ing us.

On Wednesday, he won three events. The biggest came in the 60-meter hurdles, where Garland clocked a PR and US#1 time of 7.88. It beats Garland's previous best in the event, 7.89, which he ran at indoor states last winter. The time came without starting blocks, as well. Garland is now the national leader in both the 55- and 60-meter hurdles (in addition to the high jump).

In the day's closest race, we saw a pair of the state's top sprinter's going head-to-head. Imhotep's Kristian Marche edged out Lower Merion's Romaine Rhoden to capture the win in the 60 meter dash. Marche clocked a PA#1 time of 7.01, while Rhoden took second in a PA#2 time of 7.02 in the finals.

Rhoden returned later in the day to win the 200 meters from the first heat in 22.38. It's a solid improvement on his pervious best of 22.80 set earlier in the season as Rhoden sits at PA#2 in the event. Garland continued his busy day, placing second in 22.65, a PA#3.

Hill-Freedman's Armonte Paulk held off Chester's Malachi Langley for the 400 meter win. Paulk ran 50.99, while Langley ran 51.60.

Central Bucks South won the 4x200 meter relay in 1:33.40. Chester, meanwhile, didn't top its own PA#1 in the 4x400 meter relay, but still won in a time of 3:29.90.

DISTANCE

Avery Lederer of Penncrest looked strong in the mile. The senior ran 4:32.32 to take the win over Christian McComb of Boyertown, who took second in 4:35.53. In the 800 meters, Quakertown's Hudson Delisle ran 2:00.40 to old off Chester's Lamaj Curry, who ran 2:00.77 for second.

Jason Cornelison of Cheltenham took home the win in the 3000 meters, running a PA#2 9:09.65. Wissahickon's Matt Maiale looked strong, running a PA#3 time of 9:10.13 for second.

In the DMR, Pennsbury ran well to pick up the win in 10:44.72 for new PA#1 and US#3. The Falcons held off a strong Spring Ford team, which ran a PA#2 and US#4 time of 10:46.18.

Boyertown ran 8:16.74 to take a blow out victory in the 4x800 meter relay. That's a new PA#3.

FIELD

Garland wasn't finished on the track. He had a strong day in the field as well, particularly in the shot put. Garland launched yet another PR in the shot put, an event he's shown great improvement in this winter. He threw a PA#2 54-3 to win the event by over five feet. His previous best was 52-8.25. He also won the high jump, jumping 6-7. He had some strong looks at 6-10, but just missed on a few.

West Chester Rustin's Charles Dever took home his fourth win of young season. He cleared 15-0 for the win. While it was his lowest height of the season, it's worth noting that Dever only went 15-0 once indoors and once outdoors all of last year.

Pennridge's Ryan Sattelle had a big day in the triple jump. He leapt 45-4, an indoor best and a new PA#1 for the senior, who has become a serious state medal threat, if not better, in the event.
