One of Pennsylvania's most exciting athletes won't be competing at Sunday's PTFCA Indoor State Championships.
Kyle Garland of Germantown Academy is injured and has decided to skip the indoor state meet set for this coming weekend at Penn State. He was accepted into this weekend's USATF Indoor Championships, but he opted against competing because of an ankle injury.
Garland was not in the entries released earlier this afternoon, and he confirmed on Twitter that he will not be competing at states.
The University of Georgia signee is the reigning state champion in the 60-meter hurdles and the high jump. He was expected to be a serious threat for indoor state titles in the hurdles and high jump again, in addition to the long jump and shot put. He's currently ranked inside the top six in the state in all of those events.
He hopes to be fully healthy for New Balance Nationals Indoor, where he is the defending champion in the pentathlon.
