Girls' 60-Meter Dash Preview
Thelma Davies of Girard College has been absolutely unstoppable this season in her best event, and that should continue into Sunday's state meet. She's been undefeated on the season, claiming wins at high profile meets all season. She's already run 7.38 this season, which is just .01 off her own state record, so Davies will likely be aiming to improve on her own all-time best.
Two others in this field have run sub-7.70 this season: Grace Lanouette of Conestoga (PA#2) and Lauryn James of Central (PA#4). Lanouette ran 7.60 at a DVGTCA meet a few weeks ago and was seventh at states last year, while James went 7.69 to win the MOC title last week. Both are seniors and would be looking to capitalize if Davies slips up.
Norristown's Jonae Cook (PA#5), North Allegheny's Casey Burton (PA#6), Lower Merion's Aja Davis (PA#7), and Athens Area's Breana Gambrell (PA#9) are among the others with hopes of high finishes in the dash. Remember that there are prelims and semis before the finals, which means a a number of rounds for these athletes to get through.
