Thelma Davies Is Twice Golden (Again!)

For a second straight year, Thelma Davies brought a pair of gold medals home from Penn State. The Girard College junior sprint sensation dominated the 60 meter dash and the 200 meters to capture more state titles.

Davies started her day by winning the 60 meter dash, her third straight state title in the event. She clocked in at 7.37 in the finals, which matches her personal best and overall state record, but beats her own state meet record of 7.38 set last year.

Davies then returned later to retain her title in the 200 meters. She finished in 23.98, just off her personal best of 23.89 from the Hispanic Games earlier this season. It was her second state crown in as many years in the event.

Davies did all this while experiencing some discomfort in her hamstring and shins. She admitted after the meet that she felt she held back a bit to avoid further injury. Next up for Davies is New Balance Nationals Indoor, where she'll chase national titles in the 60 meters and 200 meters.

Between indoors and outdoors, Davies has racked up nine state titles. She's done that with a junior spring track season and full senior year ahead of her. She's rewritten the record books and she's not close to being finished.
