PIAA District 1 AA/AAA Championships
Coatesville
Central Bucks South wins the 4x800 with a time of 7:37.43 and the top-9 teams were under 8:00.51.
Brett Millar, CD East, (Left in photo by Don Rich from 2009 Penn Relays) won the javelin with a US#5 throw of 219-0. Vincent DuVerouis, Springfield Delco, was 2nd with a huge 210-07. Both marks broke the district record. Wesley Lavong, Methacton, took the shot put with a district record 62-4.
Meet Summary:
Villa Joseph Marie swept through AA girls with dominating performances. The took the 4x100 in 50.84, the 4x400 in 4:03.76, and the 4x800 in 9:46.12. Individually, Shannon Geddes ran 58.71 in the 400. Megan Patrick ran 26.53 in the 200. Michelle Bresnahan leapt 16-02.75 in the long jump. Look for soph Ruyanne' Baldwin of Country Day after she captured the 100 hurdles in 15.46 and the 300 hurdles in 46.55.
Another sophomore, Abington's Leah Nugent, was the star of AAA girls, winning the 100 hurdles in a PA#2 14.30, the 300 hurdles in 43.94, and anchoring the 4x100 to a PA#1 47.51 and the 4x400 to a 3:50.49. Chester senior Rayiana Johnson captured the 100 in 12.13 and the 200 in 24.63. Gwynedd Mercy's Taylor Bumpas ran 2:12.72 in the 800. Council Rock North Julie Fricke ran a state-best 4:58.88 1600. Souderton's Kristin Smith cleared a PA#2 5-8 high jump. Tory Worthen, Council Rock South, sailed over 12-6 in the pole vault. Phoenixville junior Courtney Kedra leapt 19-01.75 in the long jump. Fellow junior Ali Gillen of Central Bucks East went out 38 feet to win the triple jump. The shot put was won by Shante Evans of West Chester East with a PA#2 throw of 46-04.25. Her discus of 132-6 won as well.
In AA Boys, Alex Weiss of Harriton, captured the 110 hurdles in 15.49 and the 300 hurdles in 40.60. Springfield Montco's Matt Finn doubled, taking the 800 in 1:59.75 and the 1600 in 4:27.58. Bristol won two relays, the 4x100 in 44.99 and the 4x400 in 3:30.13. Nana Atakora-Bediako of Church Farm School, leapt 21-06.25 in the long jump and 46-05.50 in the triple jump.
Central Bucks senior Brett Millar used the pentultimate throw of 210-7 by Springfield Delco senior Vincent DuVernois in the javelin as motivation for his 219-00 PR and PA#2. Both broke the district record. Both Central Bucks South (7:37.43) and Upper Dublin (7:44.32) broke the 1982 4x800 district record of 7:44.70 by Wissahickon. All eight state-qualifying teams were under 7:58. North Penn won the 4x100 as well, going 42.60. Chris Morales, Abington, went 47.82 in the 400. CB South 4x800 anchor Tom Mallon cruised in the 800 in 1:54.78. Jimmy Tarsnane kicked away from three competitors to win the 3200 in 9:16.65. Abington (3:1934) and Penncrest (3:19.91) cracked 3:20 in the 4x400. Quakertown's James Weiss was over at 15-0 in the pole vault. Carlton Lavong leapt 47-08.50 in the triple jump. Older brother Wesley threw 62-4 for a district record in the shot put. Carlton (22-08.75) settled for 2nd in the long jump behind Sean Gentry of North Penn (22-10). And Wesley was runner-up in the discus (153-11) to Kennett junior Black Davenport (156-2).

Saturday Highlights
AAA
Warwick won the girls AAA 4x800 with a time of 9:23.39. Carlisle won the AAA boys 4x800 with a time of 7:55.06. Alysha Cook, Harrisburg, won the AAA 300 hurdles with a time of 44.86 and the AAA 100 hurdles with a time of 14.28. Michael Brown, Lower Dauphin, rocked the AAA 300 hurdles with a time of 37.93 but finished behind Leon Bullock, Harrisburg, in the AAA 110 hurdles. Bullock won with a time of 14.68. The sprints will be missing indoor 60 meter dash champ Romarr Mayne, who limped to the finish on Friday in the 100m Trials after injuring his hamstring a week earlier in his county championships.
Marissa McDonald, CD East, won the AAA 100 meter dash with a time of 12.63. Brandon Keeny, Wilson, won the AAA 100 meter dash with a time of 11.41. Jordan Jenkins, New Oxford, won the AAA 1600 with a time of 5:02.33. Kevin Hull, Hempfield, won the AAA 1600 with a time of 4:20.41. Gabrielle Poore, Wilson, won the AAA 400 meter dash with a time of 57.25. Lamont Fowler, Conrad Weiser, won the AAA 400 meter dash with a time of 47.93.
AA
Greenwood won the AA 4x800 with a time of 9:46.79. Trinity won the AA 4x800 running away with a time of 8:02.47. Janice Erbe, Delone Catholic, won the AA 300 meter hurdles with a time of 45.72. Christian Kuntz, Trinity, won the AA 300 meter hurdles in 38.68 and the AA 110 meter hurdles in 14.82. Mariah Robertson, Delone Catholic, won the AA 100 meter hurdles with a time of 15.87. Joy Santos, Berks Christian, won the AA 100 meter dash with a time of 12.98 and the AA 400 meter dash with a time of 59.01. Thomas Walker, Milton Hershey, won the AA 100 meter dash with a time of 11.38. Emily Miller, Kutztown, won the AA 1600 meter run with a time of 5:26.74. Joe Beveridge, Bishop McDevitt, won the AA 1600 meter run with a time of 4:25.44. Almamy Bangura, Milton Hershey, won the AA 400 meter dash with a time of 48.56.

Williamsport boys swept the relays, winning the 4x100 in 44.65, the 4x400 in 3:28.24, and the 4x800 in 8:19.12. Selinsgrove won the 4x100 in 50.99 and the 4x400 in 4:13.52. Mariah Conrad, Athens, won the long jump in 16-10.25 and the triple jump in 35-01. Kyle Bennar, Selinsgrove, won the javelin in 177-01.

Nikki Leach, Northern Bedford, won the 100 dash in 13.24 and the 200 dash in 26.71. Shade won the 4x100 with a time of 51.82 and the 4x400 with a time of 4:13.45. Taylor Crawford, Northern Bedford, won the long jump, 18-02.25, the triple jump, 37-01.50, and the 100 hurdles, 15.79.

Brady Gehret, Altoona, won the 200 meter dash with a US #6 time of 21.13. Gehret also took the long jump with a leap of 23-00.25. Alex Kenney, State College, won the 100 meter dash with a time of 10.64. Kenney tied the district record and Gehret set the district record. Altoona also won both relays, winning the 4x100 with a time of 41.96 and the 4x400 with a time of 3:16.61. Altoona's distance boys made it a relay sweep with a 4x800 win in 7:58.53. Jacob Shade, Central Mountains, won the shot put with a throw of 51-03.00 and the discus with a toss of 148-06.00. The javelin was closely contested with Michael Brode, Indian Valley, besting Chris Carper, Altoona, 185-11 to 185-07.
Girls
Kelly Davis, Altoona, won the 100 meter dash in a meet record 12.43 and the 200 meter dash in 25.78. Davis also won the long jump with a leap of 17-08.25. Chloe Schmidt, State College, won the 800 in a meet record 2:12.15 and the 1600 in 5:14.73. Altoona won the 4x100 relay with a meet record time of 48.76.
