AA Girls' Javelin Throw Preview
We've got a good one brewing here!
The AA girls' javelin will be one of the best events of the state meet with a number of the state and nation's top javelin throwers coming together. At the top is Trinity Clark of Kane Area. The District 9 champion has been on fire this season. After taking seventh last year, Clark has posted some big improvements. She threw 165-03, a US#3 and PA#2. She threw 150-08 to win at D9 and will look to take state gold at Ship.
In fact, the District 9 Championships were home to some of the jav's top entries for states. Cambrie Campbell of Moniteau was second to Clark throwing 145-05, just off her PR. Campbell has been the third the past two years, and that consistency could pay off with a win this time. Skylar Sherry of Johnsonburg was third in D9. Last year as a sophomore, Sherry stepped up in a big way and took second to Maura Fiamoncini at states. She tossed her PR a few weeks ago, a 144-09.
Lillian Hill of North East will be one to watch. She was fourth last season at states. This year, she just won her third straight District 10 title and has a season best of 138-10. Hill will be looking to move up this season. South Park's Maura Huwalt threw 135-05 to win the the WPIAL title (one of her three wins on the day in the throws). She's seen some good improvement in the javelin and should perform well at Ship.
Among the other medal hopefuls are North Clarion's Tori Obenrader, Greenville's Madison Hawthorne, Elk County Catholic's Alicia Fritz, and Milton Area's Alexis Krall.
