Pope John Paul II squeaked out the win and district title last year by a single point holding off Holy Ghost Prep for lone state qualifying spot out of D1-AA last season. PJP does lose its top two from last season, but has four varsity returners that will look to return this team to Hershey this fall.
Holy Ghost (second at districts in '17) and Upper Perkiomen (fourth at districts in '17) have moved to AAA this season, making PJP's path to the title a little easier. But Lower Moreland, which placed third at districts last year, will provide a good challenge. Reigning district champ Shane Cohen is back, along with the rest of LM's varsity squad from last year. Expect a close battle for the D1-AA crown and that coveted states spot.
AA newcomers Glen Mills Schools and Upper Moreland will look to get in contention this season after shifting classifications in the offseason.
