D7-AA Girls - Individuals Breakdown

At the top District 7 Class AA is has a pair of the top AA girls in the state heading into the 2018 season. The reigning district champion, Annie Wicker of Quaker Valley, will battle it out with Gionna Quarzo of Brownsville Area for the top spot this fall.

Wicker comes in as the defending champ. She ran away with the title by 26 seconds last year. At states Wicker placed eighth. Quarzo was second at districts and then tenth at states. But the rising junior Quarzo did capture the AA state crown this spring in the 3,200 meters, running a quick 10:48 for the win. As far as inter-district matchups go, this is one of the best the state has to offer this fall.

After the top two, there is still some good depth. Avonworth's Anna Igims took third at districts last year, running a 5K best of 19:51 at Cooper's Lake. Belle Vernon's Grace Henderson had a solid 2017, which included a fourth place finish at districts. Both girls are back this fall.

South Fayette's Hailey Poe was 11th at districts, but ran a great race at Hershey to place 50th in the state. Knoch's Samantha Jo Barnes, Indiana Area's Isabelle McCabe, Derry Area's Mary Trinclisti, and the Beaver Area duo Emily Brown and Rachel Quillin are among the other girls to watch in D7-AA this fall.
