New Balance Games - PA Girls Recap
Lydia Bottelier made her season debut a successful one. The Palisades senior and three-time state champion cleared an indoor PR of 5-10 to take the win, matching her outdoor best.
That jump moves Bottelier into a five-way tie for US#3. Two girls this winter have jumped 6 feet even.
Girard College's Thelma Davies returned to the track on Saturday and threw down a winning performance in the 55 meters. Davies went 6.96 to pull away for a convincing win. The time a PA#2 and US#2 time, with PA now holding down the top two spots in the nation in the event (and also the only two sub-7 girls in the country)
Fore Abinusawa of Germantown Academy, who holds down that US#1 spot in the 55, blew away the field to win the 200 meters. The freshman continued her strong first high school season with a 24.35, beating second place by over a second. That time tops her previous PR of 24.51 and puts her at US#20 on the season.
Isabelle Goldstein, also from Germantown Academy, booked her trip to the Millrose Games with an impressive victory in the mile. Goldstein pulled away to dominate the field, clocking a big PR of 4:56.33. The New Balance Games is an automatic qualifier for the February 9 Millrose Games back at the Armory. After three other strong performances at the Armory, Goldstein ran one of the best races of her career to earn her spot with the win.
Liliana Cohen of GA won the novice pole vault with a clearance of 12-00, continuing her unbeaten streak this season, claiming her fifth victory this winter. In the varsity girls pole vault, Danielle Heine of Abington Heights also jumped 12-00, taking third in a stacked field of vaulters.
