Boys' Triple Jump Preview
Last year brought an epic battle for the indoor state title in the boys triple jump. Treyvon Ferguson leapt to the gold on his attempt. This year could also bring some great excitement to the runways.
The top seeds coming in are teammates: Lance Hamilton and Stanley Hamilton, both from State College Area. Lance Hamilton sits atop the state rankings with his best jump of 47-11.75. He was fourth a year ago and he'll look to take the state title on a runway that's very familiar to him. Stanley Hamilton should also contend for the win. The senior leapt 47-03.25 at Susquehanna earlier this season, a big PR and was fifth at indoor states last year.
The one who could perhaps make the best run at the Hamiltons is Jakari Lomax of Harrisburg. The senior has a season best of 45-10.25 (PA#7), but usually steps up in big meets. He was a very close second to Ferguson last year and will look for another clutch performance on Sunday. Naheem Moore of Coatesville is another one to watch. He's at PA#11, but is one of the 4 returning medalists from last winter.
Three boys come into states with best jumps in the 46-foot range. Neshaminy's Logan Williamson jumped 46-09 at the Last Chance Meet and should be a factor with a PA#3 ranking entering the weekend. Garnet Valley's Larry Coaxum has had a breakthrough season and he is at PA#4 (46-06.75). Brian Phillips of Hickory jumped 46-03 (PA#5) this season, a big step-up from last season, too. Look for both to contend for high finishes and possibly even the win here.
Keystone's Brody Coleman (PA#6), McDowell's Caleb Mabins (PA#8), and Upper Dublin's Jaden Price-Whitehead (PA#9) will make runs at the medal stand on Sunday in what should be a fierce battle for the top eight.
