State College Shows Off Depth: Boys PTFCA States Recap

Boys Field Recap - PTFCA Indoor State Championships

Ezra Mellinger put himself straight into the record books on his first jump of the day in the long jump. Mellinger of Lampeter Strasburg leapt 24-11.5, the second best jump in state history, which broke the PTFCA meet record, held by Ron Dickerson since 1989.

Sunday brought another exciting edition of the triple jump. On his final attempt, State College's Stanley Hamilton won the event with a PA#1 leap of 48-03.25. In the process he passed his brother Lance Hamilton, who wound up second (48-01), making it a 1-2 finish for State College.

Cole Peterlin of Perkiomen Valley won in dramatic fashion in the high jump. Both Peterlin and defending champion Kolt Byers of Bermudian Springs cleared 6-06 by the end of the competition. After that, it went to a jump-off with Peterlin taking the win by clearing 6-07.

After battling an injury for most of the season, Caleb Johnson of Germantown Academy came back just at the right time. The senior cleared 15-00 and 15-06 on his first attempts en route to his first career state title after taking second a year ago. Penn Manor's Matt Julian cleared a PR 15-06 for second on attempts.

Brock Grundy added his name to the ever-growing list of Hickory state champions in the shot put. The senior threw a big heave of 61-05.75, a PR in the fifth round to capture the state crown. That's the best throw by a PA boy this season.
