In Thelma Davies' first-ever state meet in 2016, the then-freshman sprinter took third in the 200 meters. That race still stands today as the only state meet final (indoor and outdoor) that Davies didn't win in her illustrious prep career. Also in that race, Pennridge's Kouri Peace broke a 12-year-old Pennsylvania state record in the event, running 23.74.
At Sunday's PTFCA Indoor Championships, Davies of Girard College ran away with her third straight indoor 200 meter state title and finally took down Peace's record. Davies blasted a 23.51, a current US#2 time, to shatter the previous record.
Earlier in the day, Davies broke her own 60 meter dash state record, when she ran 7.31 for the win and record. Davies now holds PA state records in the four "short" sprint events, the indoor 60 and 200 and the outdoor 100 and 200.
Next up for the LSU signee is the New Balance Nationals Indoor, where she is entered in the 60 meters and 200 meters. Watch the 200 meter state race above and check out an interview with Davies below.
