Davies Opens With Quick 200m At Great Valley

Thelma Davies got her final high school outdoor season off to a quick start.

At the R. Joseph Kellerman Invitational at Great Valley on Saturday, the Girard College senior made her season debut, contesting just the 200 meters. Davies ran away with the win in 23.73, a PA No. 1 and US No. 12 all-conditions time. She made up the stagger early and cruised to the victory by over a second and a half.

It's also the earliest that Davies has run that fast. In the past, Davies hadn't broken 24 seconds until districts. Her PR of 23.10 came at the USATF Junior Outdoor Championships last summer.

She wasn't the only one throwing down state-leading performances at Great Valley. The Haverford School's Daiyaan Hawkins ran a PA#1 21.44 to win the 200 meters. He also popped a PA#5 10.69 to win the 100 meters. In the girls' triple jump, Perkiomen Valley's Christina Warren leapt 39-10.5, a PA#1, to win the event. She also went 14.18 to win the 100 meter hurdles.
