AAA Girls' Javelin Throw Preview
Skylar Ciccolini of Mifflin County has left her legacy on the state of Pennsylvania. The senior and University of Missouri signee has put herself well into javelin lore. She currently holds the second best throw in high school history at 184-2 from the Penn Relays. She is this season's US No. 1 almost 16 feet and she'll be looking to add her second straight PIAA Class AAA state title.
She has been consistently great again this season. Since her throw at Penn, which was just a foot and a half off Madison Wiltrout's state and national record, she has thrown 171, 169, and 173 in her last three meets. She's the overwhelming favorite and she will surely take another crack at Wiltrout all-time on Saturday afternoon, and Ship's all-weather runway will be a good spot to possibly get it done. The number to beat is 185-8, but Wiltrout also holds the state meet record of 182-8, which will also be a number to keep an eye on.
Lampeter-Strasburg's Kristen Herr is having a great season in the jav. The senior has thrown over 150 feet three times this season, including last week to win the District 3 title. Her season best also came at Penn, a big 157-5 throw to take second to Ciccolini. She'll be one to watch Saturday. Elizabeth Forward senior Brianna Spirnak comes in with a season best of 147-5. The WPIAL champ has been consistent this season, and after a second place finish last year, she will once again be a major threat in this field.
Skylar Ciccolini's younger sister Taylor Ciccolini has had a breakthrough season in the javelin. The sophomore tossed a big PR of 146-1 to take second to her older sister at the District 6 Championships. She comes into Saturday as the No. 3 seed and she will be a factor in the event for sure.
Among the other contenders is this deep field are District 1 champion Grace Ramsey of Perkiomen Valley, District 2 champion Abbey Hengst of Hazleton Area, and Bangor Area's Paige Terrette.
