Thelma Davies' busy summer will continue this weekend out west.
Davies is entered in the High School 100 meters at the Prefontaine Classic on Sunday, which will be held at Stanford University because of construction at the meet's usual location at the University of Oregon.
Girard College's Davies, with a best of 11.25, is the top seed in the field of high schoolers. Kenondra Davis of Texas, who ran 11.36 to take second at the Brooks PR Invitational, is also entered and will be the No. 2 seed. Jayla Jamison from South Carolina and Sydney Holiday of Colorado are among the other top seeds.
The women's high school 100 meters is scheduled to go off Sunday at 3:52 p.m. EST.
It's been a wildly successful month of June for the LSU recruit Davies. At New Balance Nationals Outdoor, Davies won the national title in the 200 meters, running a slightly wind-aided 22.95 for the win. A week later at the USATF U20 Championships in Florida, Davies clocked her wind-legal personal best of 11.25 for second place, qualifying her for the Pan-American U20 Championships. Both of those times are Pennsylvania state all-time bests.
After Sunday's race, Davies next race will likely come at Pan-Ams in San Jose, Costa Rica, set for July 19-21. Check out the full list of Prefontaine Classic high school 100 meter entries here.
