Today, we salute Owen Shields of Central Bucks West.

Shields closed out a strong high school career for the Bucks this spring. He was apart of the terrific CB West boys 4x800 meter relay this past season that took home the program's third straight state title in Class AAA. That squad ran 7:42.52 to capture the win with Shields splitting 1:57.

He had open PRs of 1:59.49 in the 800 meters and 52.74 in the 400 meters.

What was your most memorable race/competition?

The race I'll never forget is the 4x8 finals of my senior year. The race went smooth and it ended with the result we wanted. 


Where did you face your biggest competition?

My biggest competition was everyday in practice, our coaches put us in a situation to succeed and my teammates help push each other to run faster


Out of all of your high school accomplishments, which stands out the most?

Winning the 2019 4x8 state title, we did it with such an interesting, unsuspecting and fun group.


If you could do it all over again, what would you change about your athletic career in high school?

I wouldn't change much except for just making sure I had fun with everything along the way. There were times I was sweating the small stuff but in the end it all worked out. 



What were the most difficult obstacles you had to overcome?

Managing my training schedule around hockey in the winter. 



What will you miss the most?





The guys on my team and the kids I would race against. We were all pretty good friends. 


Do you have any advice for younger athletes? 





Listen to your coaches and always give it your best. 



How have your coaches influenced your performances and your life goals overall?

If it wasn't for my coaches I wouldn't be the runner or leader I am today. Every coach in our program has had an impact on my life  


What are your post-high school plans?

I will attend the Catholic University Of America, majoring in International Business. I will play football and run track. 


Any shoutouts?

Just want to say thanks to my coaches, "the boys", and all the guys I ran against. Thanks for a fun 4 years.
