Loudoun Valley Sweeps Again: PTXC 11 Recap


PTXC 11 - Boys Gold Race Recap

What a battle it was up front. in amongst a sea of Loudoun Valley runners, a pair of red jerseys emerged in the closing stretch of the Gold Race.

In a mad dash to the line, Jack Jennings of Mendham (NJ) got the better of Calvert Hall College (MD)'s Owen Johnson, winning by two tenths of a second per the official results. Both Jennings and Johnson went 15:46 with Jennings getting the slight advantage at the line.

Loudoun Valley then took the next four spots. Taylor Ney was third in 15:55, outleaning Carlos Shultz, who was fourth also in 15:55. Kellen Hasle was fifth in 16:02 and Kevin Carlson was sixth in 16:03 for the Vikings. Mateo Barreto's ninth place finish in 16:10, rounded out the scoring five for LV.

Charter School of Wilmington (DE)'s Andrew Avila was seventh in 16:05, and Andrew Healey of Holy Cross was the top Pennsylvania finisher, taking eighth in 16:07.

Loudoun Valley made easy work of the team standings. The Vikings scored 27 points with the top ten packed with those yellow tops. It's just the beginning for the two-time defending national champs, but Saturday was a sign that the Vikings once again have some terrific depth.

Johnson's team beat out Jennings' squad in the team results. Calvert Hall College (MD) took second with 111 points, followed by Mendham (NJ), which was third with 136 points.

Twin Valley was the top PA team in the field, scoring 177 points for fourth. Just behind them was D3-AAA opponent Hershey, which was fifth with 197 points. Both team had sub-minute 1 through 5 gaps. AA squad Lewisburg Area battled well with the AAA teams, taking eighth with 228 points.
