Big Red Invitational - Meet Recap
Shenango junior Carmen Medvit picked up her second invitational victory of the season, beating
Sharon's Gianna Labbiento to the line in another meeting of top District 10 runners in the Big
Red girls' race. Medvit, who was eighth in the same race a year ago, stopped the clock in
19:00.59, while Labbiento was next at 19:01.86. Meaera Shannon of Conneaut Area was third
in 19:23.61, while Grace Mason of Wilmington Area was the final runner to break 20 minutes at
19:57.13. Mason and her Greyhound teammates claimed the team title with 133 points, followed
by Lakeview at 163 and Shenango with 180.
In the boys' race, Grove City Area got a jump start on a team championship with a 1-2 finish by
a senior and junior. The Eagles put 56 points on the board to eclipse North East's 65 in a battle
of top ranked teams in the PTXC preseason Class AA poll. Leading the way for No. 3 Grove
City was senior Toby Jones in 16:01.98, while junior Gabe Nichols was next in 16:21.65. Senior
Troy Hart of Reynolds was third in 16:33.03, while Cochranton's Noah Bernarding (16:34.16)
and Zane Courtwright (16:38.42) of No. 5 North East rounded out the top five.
