Girls' 4x400m Relay Preview
Neumann Goretti made its presence felt at last week's DVGTCA Meet of Champions. The Saints went all in for the 4x400 and it paid off in the form of a state-leading time of 3:53.87, which is two seconds faster than the next best team, despite the fact that it came on Lehigh's flat track. That time also took down a 2001 meet record, previously held by William Penn.
The Saints will be heavily favored to win their third straight 4x4 indoor state title. Neumann Goretti has plenty of quarter mile depth and it's hard to imagine anything standing in the way of their quest for a three-peat. We'll see if they can take a shot at Penn Wood's meet record of 3:49.25 from 2017.
Two other teams have run sub-4 minutes this season in the 4x4. Friends' Central put down an impressive 3:55 at the Ocean Breeze Invite to grab the win at the end of a long meet there. Chester then dipped under 4 when it won the Philly Public League Invite a few weeks ago at the Armory. Look for both teams to compete for high finishes.
Saint Basil Academy is right at 4-flat and should make a run at that barrier with a strong race. Central Bucks West, Bensalem, Penn Charter, Twin Valley, and Pennridge will also be in the hunt for the top five.
Very little separates some of the teams on the backend of medal contention, so we can expect a number of teams -- probably from some of the earlier sections -- to grab spots in the top eight.
