Girls' Distance Medley Relay Preview
Friends' Central comes into the state meet as the top seed in the DMR. The Phoenix went 12:07.89 to win at the Philly Public League Invite, a time that is over 14 seconds better than the second-ranked squad. Many of their talented middle distance pieces will have busy days, but this is a talented group that will be in contention.
Pennridge went 12:22 to take second to Friends' Central at last week's DVGTCA Meet of Champs. They are among the top teams in the 4x8 and should be right in the mix in the DMR. West Chester Henderson went 12:26 (PA No. 3) at the Varsity Classic this year, though the relay likely won't have Jenna Mulhern, one of the top seeds in the 3K, on the relay.
Central Bucks West, another team that will be one to watch in the 4x8 will be back for the DMR and this squad has depth and could potentially have some fresh pieces that will make it a serious factor up front. Penn Charter ran to the state title last year in the DMR, putting all its eggs in that basket. They are entered in the 4x8 this time around, but expect PC to still be right in the mix for the win.
Downingtown West, Carlisle, and Northeastern are among the other highly-ranked relays in this field.
The DMR frequently turns into a war of attrition at the end of a long meet with many athletes doubling back from earlier open events or relays. It's a hard event to predict, but it will no doubt be an exciting battle between a number of talented squads.
