Throwback: Fast 800s At Butler

The Butler Invitational was set for this past Thursday, April 16. Of course, the coronavirus pandemic has wiped out the entirety of the indoor season. So in lieu of meets, we've been taking a look back on some of the biggest moments of last season.

At Butler last year, the 800s were flying, the a pair of benchmarks were set in back-to-back events with state-leading times dropped in both the girls and boys races.

Malia Anderson of Greensburg Salem, now at Georgetown University, went 2:13.36 to win the girls race and clock a time that was PA No. 1 at the time. It was a big win and a pivitol moment in the senior's season, as she went on to place fourth at the PIAA State Championships in a time of 2:11.40.

Then shortly thereafter in the boys race, Grove City's Jonah Powell dropped an impressive 1:54.10 to dominate the boys' field in the 800 meters. Powell also placed fourth in the 800 at the state meet, but prior to that race, went 4:15.38 to take second in the 1,600 meters.
