Today we salute Thomas Kitchell of Notre Dame-Green Pond.

Kitchell had a great career in the throws with the Crusaders. Kitchell took home the state championship in the AAA discus last season as a junior. He threw 177-4 at Shippensburg for the victory. He tossed his personal best in the discus last year of 185-5 at an All-Comers meet. Kitchell was also second in the AAA shot put last spring, posting his career best in the shot of 60-5.5 at Ship.

Kitchell, a Wake Forest recruit, reflected on his career for PennTrackXC.

What was your most memorable race/competition?

My most memorable competition was definitely 2019 states where I took Gold in the discus and silver in the shot put.

Where did you face your biggest competition?

My biggest competition was at NBNO last season. A lot of big hitters were there and I'm so happy I got to compete with the best in the nation.

Out of all of your high school accomplishments, which stands out the most?

I would say winning a state title and breaking 60ft in shot put both stand out the most.

If you could do it all over again, what would you change about your athletic career in high school?

I would've got more serious about training before freshman year.

What were the most difficult obstacles you had to overcome?

My junior year I broke my ankle right before indoors started. I was barely throwing over 50 all indoor season. Once the nice weather came around I started to throw 58+ consistently.

What will you miss the most?

I will miss my team the most. I love all my teammates especially my training partner for the last 4 years Allan Milkovitz. He will be continuing his track career at Kings College.

Any shoutouts?

I would love to shoutout my Coach Glenn Thompson. I will miss him so much and I can't thank him enough for the endless support and love he gave me. Also my old teammates Braeden Farrell and Tyler Ference.

Do you have any advice for younger athletes?

Some advice would be if you struggling just keep working. Always look up and just keep fighting.

How have your coaches influenced your performances and your life goals overall?

My coach Glenn Thompson has helped me grow so much in the ring but also as a young man. He's a great role model and if it wasn't for him I wouldn't where I am today.

What are your post-high school plans?

I will be continuing my track and field career at Wake Forest University.
