Today we salute Kendall Branan of Indiana Area.

Branan closed out a terrific career, where he proved to have a great mix of sprint speed and distance strength. In his final official high school race, Branan won the indoor state title with a remarkable kick to win take the 800 meter victory in a PR of 1:52.14. Outdoors, he ran a best of 1:54.04 to win the WPIAL crown in the 800.

In XC, Branan had a strong senior season on the trails, claiming wins at the Kiski Invite and the Carlisle Invitational (there, he ran a 5K XC best of 16:15). He was ninth in AA at the XC state meet.

The Pitt recruit reflected on his career for PennTrackXC.

What was your most memorable race/competition?

The 2020 states indoor track race

Where did you face your biggest competition?

My most competition was at the 2020 state meet as well

Out of all of your high school accomplishments, which stands out the most?

Winning the state meet I always wanted to make it to that level but it always seemed like it was out of reach. So when I finally made it it felt really good

If you could do it all over again, what would you change about your athletic career in high school?

I would've trained harder in 9th and 10th grade

What were the most difficult obstacles you had to overcome?

Missing most of my junior cross country year and just trying to stay focused during a long year.

Branan's state championship-winning race in the 800m

What will you miss the most?

I will miss running for Indiana but I am excited to run as a Pitt Panther

Do you have any advice for younger athletes?

Stay focused and don't lose sight of your goals

How have your coaches influenced your performances and your life goals overall? Mrs. Kinter always thought that I would win a state title even when I was in 8th grade track

What are your post-high school plans?

Go to the University of Pittsburgh and run in the ACC

Any shoutouts?

I would like to thanks my parents for taking me to and from practices and Mrs. Kinter for never giving up on me.
