Tyler Shue was a bit under the radar coming into the Championship 800 meters, at least as far as the national scene goes. But that didn't stop the then-junior from taking home the national title at New Balance Nationals Outdoor last summer.
Shue, of Ephrata, captured the title in a personal best time of 1:50.83, pulling away to win by a fairly sizable margin in the end. A few weeks earlier, he won the PIAA Class AAA state crown to make for a strong season for Shue.
He's headed to Penn State in the fall.
Shue, of course, did not get the opportunity to go after his second straight national title in the 800 meters with the meet -- along with the entire outdoor season -- getting canceled amid the coronavirus pandemic.
