By Douglas Hoover SCHOLASTIC GIRLS Central Cambria captured their fourth team title and fourth individual title in the seven-year history of the meet. Their top-seven all finished in the top nine individuals to score an impressive 15 points. Central Cambria freshman Alyssa Brandis became the third fastest girl ever on the course (19:32.0). Saint Marys freshman Adair Gennocro became the 13th fastest girl ever on the course (20:17.0). Second and fourth place finishers Kelsey and Kendall Seymour of Central Cambria were already ranked among the top-twenty all-time. SCHOLASTIC BOYS Central Cambria captured their second team title to go along with the first one they won in 2005. The high school boys race was the tightest of the day as United finished just four points behind Central Cambria. Allegany junior Ian MacFawn won his first individual title after finishing 23rd here two years ago as a freshman. His time of 17:06.0 makes him the 13th fastest boy ever on the course. Central Cambria senior Mike Salguero became the 19th fastest boy ever on the course (17:18.0). COLLEGIATE WOMEN Saint Vincent picked up their first Eagle Invitational team title as well as their first individual title. Saint Vincent sophomore Ivette Mejia became the 9th fastest woman ever on the course (19:50.3) and just the tenth woman ever to break twenty minutes. Juniata senior Laura Rupprecht became the 19th fastest woman ever on the course (20:20.0). COLLEGIATE MEN Juniata won their third meet title after winning previously in 2003 and 2005. Bridgewater sophomore Jordan White remained undefeated this season and also became the third fastest man ever on the course (25:17.1). Juniata senior Matthew Bailey became the 7th fastest man ever on the course (25:27.4). Juniata alum Justin Fritzius became the 17th fastest man ever on the course (25:47.7). |

37 was the lucky number for both the Archbishop Wood girls and boys varsity teams in a sweep of the meet at Brooklawn Park in New Bedford, MA. Junior Katie Boligitz and senior Maura Crany captured 1st (19:41) and 4th (19:51), respectively, to start the scoring for the girls. The 3rd through 5th runners were in the top 22. Archbishop Wood sophomore Mike Cosenza led his team to the win with his 17:12 6th place finish. Juniors Ryan Kuhn and Tim Goodwin were 13th and 14th. The next three Wood runners finished from 22nd to 24th. |

Flash results: O'Hara boys upset PA#9 Haverford Twp, 63-76 but the Fords' Ed Donnelly capures the individual crown in 16:16. PA#6 Academy of Notre Dame nips Strath Haven 63-69. Kelyn Freedman wins the girls title in 18:58. On a cool, breezy, cloudy day, PA#6 Academy of Notre Dame were looking to clinch their first ever Delaware County Championship. At the start of the race, Grace Chang of Penncrest was pacing the leaders. The pack featured seven runners who all went through the first mile in the 5:50s. Notre Dame had two girls in that pack, which put them in good shape. Unfortunately for the chase pack, the front back never fell apart and the pace stayed the same with the same front group. At the two mile mark, Chang was still in the lead at 12:16 with Radnor's Kelyn Freedman not far behind. Those two ultimately broke away from the big pack in the race's final meters. Chang was still leading the race coming out of the horseshoe and into the final hill. About half way up the hill, Freedman made a huge move and surged past Chang to win the race in 18:58. For Freedman, it was her first DELCO championship and her fourth top five finish in the race. As for the team title, Strath Haven's Sarah Rutkowski finished 3rd in front of Notre Dame's Maria Seykora (4th) and Julianne Garvey (5th). But with Notre Dame having three in the top nine overall compared to Strath Haven's two, Notre Dame came away with their first DELCO title 63-69. The guys race featured Haverford High School a week after their runner up finish at Paul Short behind Cumberland Valley. However, 1/2 mile into the race, Cardinal O'Hara stepped up and made their message clear that they were going to be the team to challenge the PA#9 squad. At the half mile mark, O'Hara had five guys sitting in the front of the pack. At the mile mark, a pack of eight runners went through the mile in 5:02. Ed Donnelley of Haverford was near the front of that pack and would start to take control of the race. At the two mile mark, Donnelly had already pulled away from the field and running by himself. Behind him, the team race was getting tight. Cardinal O'Hara came out with their top five in the top 15 of the race that was in front of Haverford's 4th and 5th runners. Ed Donnelly would get his gold medal in 16:16. But his team would have to settle for runner up honors, as Cardinal O'Hara used a 41 second spread and placed their top seven in the top 25 overall to win the team title 63-76.

  Jacob Kildoo of Grove City Area (Right in photo by Carl Strub) comes away with another victory. The junior came away with the individual title in 16:19.67, 31 seconds ahead of the field. Meadville snuck out of Harbor Creek with the team title over Kildoo's team 65-67, as Meadville's five in the top 21 overcame Grove City's three in the top seven. In the girls race, Meadville completed the team double, winning the girls title with 79 points. Senior Elesia Wilson led the charge to the team crown, winning the individual title in 19:35.20. Riverside boys placed three in the top six overall to take the team title with 44 points, 18 points better than Neshannock. Evan Miller of Laurel showed his mastery of his home course by winning the individual crown with a time of 17:07.5, 55 seconds better than the field. In the girls race, Mohawk placed four in the top eight to earn a 25 point victory over Ellwood City, 34-59. Rachel Simko of Laurel would complete the host school's individual title double, winning the girls race in 20:39.5, just under one minute better than the rest.

Trinity Boys earned a 4th place finish in the division 3 race with 84 points, 2 points out of a top 3 spot. Trinity was led by a runner up finish from Nick Gliha, who ran 16:39.4. The Trinity girls were led by an 8th place finish from Jamie Lombardo (20:52.5) to earn an 6th place finish in the girls division 3 race with 138 points.

Seneca Valley and Penn Hills boys teams ran to a 45-45 tie, but Seneca Valley pulled out the win, thanks to a 17th place finish from freshman Eli Brinker to earn the tie breaker. Sophomore Rich Lednak of the host Kiski Area defended his home course and won the individual title in 17:30.93. In the girls race, Franklin Regional overcame the home course advantage and defeated the host Kiski Area 37-53. Freshman Kaitlyn Figgurelli led the charge to the team title by winning the race in 20:43.10.

Brad Miles, North Penn ran 12:27.21, the 4th best time on the day, and Sara Sargent, Pennsbury went 14:41.92, the 6th best time on the day.
 US#14/PA#1 Germantown Friends, PA#2 West Chester Henderson, PA#3 Lasalle College, and PA#10 North Penn looked to find out how they stood against some of the East Coast's best teams in the Eastern States Race.With a 44 second spread with an 18th place finish from Tom Waterman (Right in Don Rich photo), GFS came out as the top PA team with 152 and a 4th place finish. Henderson was 5 points behind in 6th place with 157 points, a 40 second spread, and a 20th place finish from Will Kellar. North Penn cracked the top ten by finishing 9th. Brad Miles and Sam Bernitt were the top individual PA finishers, as Miles was the runner up in 12:27.51 and Bernitt was 5th in 12:33.33. Lasalle finished 13th.
In the Boys Varsity B Race, Conestoga came away with an 11th place finish, scoring 289 points, and were led by a 32nd place finish from junior James Ferguson.
 In the Varsity G Race, PA had their only boys individual champion, as Hill School's Tyler Mueller (Left in finish line photo by Tim Fulton, ArmoryTrack.com) escaped from New York with a gold medal, running 12:51.58. Hatboro-Horsham was the top PA team, finishing 4th with 182 points, led by Sam Hibbs' 10th place performance.Sara Sargent and her PA#4 Pennsbury teammates won their 3rd respective championships of the season in the girls Varsity F race. Sargent's 14:41.92 led her team to a score of 98 points and a 21 point victory. West Chester Henderson came close to duplicating Pennsbury's achievement in the Varsity E race. They were the runners up in that race, scoring 87 points, 20 points away from the win, and were led by Janie Augustyn's 2nd place finish in 15:23.21.
 The PA#9 North Penn girls ran a strong 3rd place performance in the Varsity C race, scoring 93 points, and also had their own individual champion. Megan McGovern (Right in photo by Don Rich, PennTrackXC.com) continues her one month hot streak, winning this race in 14:50.91. In the Varsity A race, Conestoga earned a 10th place finish, scoring 295 points, led by Kacie O'Neil's 19th place finish in 16:34.60.

Bradford Area boys placed all seven varsity scoring varsity runners in the top 19, including three in the top four, to win the team title over Elk County Catholic 32-56. Seniors Matthew White (1st in 17:05) and Adam Barnes (2nd in 17:14.4) were the top finishers for Bradford. In the girls race, Bradford Area completed the team title sweep, but they needed their 6th runner Brittani Wiseman and her 28th place finish (21 team points) to break the 45-45 tie with Punxsutawney Area. Kane Area's Danielle Kocjancic won the individual girls title with a time of 19:36.4, almost beating the field by a minute.

West Middlesex boys took the first four places to cruise to victory with a very low 21 points. Aaron Fitzgerald (18:16.40), Billy Hudson (18:22.47), John Socher (18:23.01) and Chase Whelan (18:31.35) led the 1-4 finish. The West Middlesex girls would also win in impressive fashion, scoring 25 points on the way to victory. They had a 1-2 finish from winner Lauren Shingledecker (21:37.07) and runner up Kia Howe (22:11.10) to help seal the win.

PA#10 Downingtown East girls has still not run all of their seven runners from the PIAA Foundations meet two weeks ago in Hershey. With four of the seven in action, they were on the runner up end of a 102-103 score line against Central Bucks South, despite a better team average. Anne Areias defended her home course with a solid performance, winning in 18:41. In the boys race, Council Rock South earned an 8 point victory of Holy Ghost Prep 71-79, placing two in the top five. Great Valley's Ned Willing won the individual title with a time of 16:05.
