There's one last cross country meet on the schedule for this fall that will involve PA teams and individuals: the East Coast Championships on Saturday, Dec. 5. The meet will be held at Holmdel Park in New Jersey and will feature teams and individuals from NJ and PA in addition to Connecticut, Delaware, and New York.
Headlining the meet from PA will be Jenna Mulhern (above) of West Chester Henderson. The junior ran 16:33.93 for 5K on the track a few weeks ago, which is the No. 3 performance over the distance in state history. Mulhern was sixth at the PIAA State Championships in early November. Mulhern will see a good challenge in the race from NJ standout Charlotte Bednar and CT star and former Foot Locker national champion Sydney Masciarelli.
All three will be in the Gold Race, which will go off at 11 A.M. on Saturday. The lone PA team in the Gold Race field are the girls from State College Area, which will go by the club name "Nittany Track & Field Club." The PIAA Class AAA runners-up will be led by a strong trio of Jordan Reed, Marlee Kwasnica, and Karsyn Kane. Downingtown West's Carolyn Tarpley and Hershey's Brooke Preputnick will also be featured in the Gold Race, while Conrad Weiser's Sydney Werner is entered in the Navy Race (10 A.M.).
A few PA boys are entered, as well. Southern Lehigh's Alex Kane (49th at the state meet in AAA) is in the Navy Race (12 P.M.) and Northeastern's Cole Perry (15th at the state meet in AAA) is in the Gold Race (1 P.M.).
