Margaret Carroll, who turned in back-to-back top five finishes at the PIAA State XC Championships in Class AAA, will be headed to Villanova University in the fall.
The Northeastern senior will join Gina Procaccio's squad next year and should be a welcome addition on the heels of a strong high school career. Villanova has won nine NCAA team title in women's cross country. Most recently in 2019, the Wildcats placed 24th at the NCAA National Championships.
Carroll was third at the XC state meet in November after winning the PIAA District 3 title. She ran her 5K XC best of 17:31 at a dual meet earlier in the fall. At the postseason XC Town Meet of Champions in Terra Haute, Indiana, Carroll won her section in 18:20. In 2019 as a junior, Carroll placed fifth at the XC state meet.
In late November, Carroll went 16:50.56 for 5,000 meters on the track, a time that is No. 8 in Pennsylvania high school history.
