The Skinny: Whysong is the big favorite to capture her second straight District 5 title. She's had a great season, running a PR of 19:39 at the LHAC Champs, and will certainly be a contender for another top ten state finish. But her journey to Hershey begins on Thursday at Somerset. Two teams will earn a berth to the state meet from D5-A. Windber looks to be the team to beat once again after winning the title in 2020. Johnstown Christian will be in the hunt for the top two, as will Meyersdale and Southern Fulton.
District 5 Class AA Girls - Race Preview
- State Qualifying Spots For Teams: 1
- State Qualifying Spots For Individuals: 5
Individuals To Watch: Jessica Dibert (Bedford); Meah Eshelman (Bedford); Emily Lang (Bedford); Avery Weaverling (Bedford); Jade Williams (Somerset)
Contending Teams: Bedford; Somerset Area
The Skinny: Only Bedford and Somerset have full scoring teams so far this season in the district, so it looks like it will be a virtual dual meet between the two teams on Thursday. Bedford will be the favorite to repeat as District 5 AA champions, though look for Somerset to have a shot to send five scoring individuals to the state meet. Eshelman will aim to win her second straight district title. She is on a hot streak after running a PR of 19:45 at the LHAC Champs.
