Meet Preview: District 10 Championships

District 10 Class A Boys - Race Preview

  • State Qualifying Spots For Teams: 2
  • State Qualifying Spots For Individuals: 10

Individuals To WatchColson Jenkins (Lakeview); Sam Hetrick (Saegertown); Hunter Spaid (Cambridge Springs); Kyler Woolstrum (Cochranton); Landon Myer (Union City); Ethan Knapp (Rocky Grove)

Contending Teams:

The SkinnyColson Jenkins of Lakeview has four top 10 finishes to his credit in 2021 along with the only sub 17:00 time in the field. Sam Hetrick of Saegertown is a perfect 3-for-3 in invite top 10s this season, while Hunter Spaid of Cambridge Springs ran well in the muddy, rainy conditions at Rocky Grove and was joined by Kyler Woolstrum of Cochranton in that challenging invite's top 10. Just six athletes have broken 17:30 in big meets this season so it should be a pretty wide open run for gold.

West Middlesex, Lakeview and Rocky Grove are the only squads with under 100 points in the MileSplit Virtual Meet based off season-best times. Each squad comes to their low number via a different route: low stick, tight pack and balance. It should be interesting to see how the points stack up after the opening loop in Titusville

District 10 Class AA Boys - Race Preview

  • State Qualifying Spots For Teams: 2
  • State Qualifying Spots For Teams: 10

Individuals To WatchLuke Brown (Cathedral Prep); Joshua Jones (Grove City); Quinn McKnight (Grove City); Caleb Hawke (Grove City); Jack Mumford (Oil City); Thomas Hunyadi (Hickory)

Contending TeamsGrove City Area, Conneaut Area, Harbor Creek, General McLane, Hickory

The Skinny: Cathedral Prep's Luke Brown and Grove City's Joshua Jones finished seconds apart and in the top 10 at Foundation. These two juniors along with several of Jones' teammates who were in a tight bunch at the season-opening Rocket Invitational will be in the mix late on this flat and fast course in Titusville.

Mike Sample's Eagles of Grove City put together another impressive regular season, going undefeated for the 14th consecutive season. Next up would be a fourth straight district title and ninth in the past 11 years. PennTrack's No. 2 Class AA team looks to be up to the task as they sported a 5-second 1-4 spread in winning Red, White & Blue and a 41-second 1-5 gap in finishing a close second at Foundation to Northwestern Lehigh, PA's No. 1 team in AA

District 8/9/10 AAA Sub-Regional Boys - Race Preview

  • State Qualifying Spots For Teams: 1
  • State Qualifying Spots For Teams: 5

Individuals To WatchChristian Mattern (McDowell); Jack Barnhisel (Taylor Allderdice); Holden Eagle (Taylor Allderdice); Kamden Kramer (McDowell)

Contending TeamsTaylor Allderdice, McDowell

The SkinnyBarnhisel has had a busy and consistent season in the big meets, registering top 20 finishes in 6 of 7 invites and championships. A junior, Mattern is the closest to the top Dragon's sub-16:00 time and has been a steady performer during his high school career. Throw in a couple of teammates on both sides and the individual race for gold will set the tone for the team championship.

The team race is going to be a good one as Taylor Allderdice and McDowell appear headed to a situation where these two teams will alternate finishers. The Dragons scored just 16 points a week ago to claim the Pittsburgh City League title and also edged McDowell in their invitational to open the season. It might be time for redemption by the Trojans
